This Ninja Frog platformer game was created as part of my midterm project for the Game Development course at Southern Utah University (SUU). The goal of this project was to apply core game development concepts, including character movement, platform mechanics, and level design, while showcasing creativity and technical skills. This game allowed me to solidify my understanding of game development fundamentals and experiment with fun, engaging gameplay mechanics.
To enhance the gameplay experience, I incorporated techniques like "coyote time," allowing players a brief moment to jump even after stepping off a platform, making the controls feel smoother and more forgiving. Additionally, I optimized the game's performance by ensuring that neither the player nor the UI reloads between levels, resulting in faster transitions and a seamless experience. This project was a fantastic opportunity to combine creativity with technical problem-solving, building a polished and engaging game.
Players can perform double jumps to reach higher platforms and navigate challenging obstacles, adding depth to the platforming experience. A short-term save system allows players to resume progress from specific checkpoints, balancing difficulty with accessibility.
To further enhance the gameplay experience, meticulous polishing was applied, including responsive controls, fluid animations, and seamless level transitions. These details ensure the mechanics feel natural and satisfying, contributing to a polished and immersive player experience that reflects attention to detail and quality.
